What are the massages offered at Pellé Medical Spa?

Our very own Deb Powell has been a massage therapist for over 6 years. Her passion is to listen to clients needs and tailor each session to meet those needs. She specializes in deep tissue, Swedish, myofascial, pregnancy and hot stone massages. Deb is looking forward to helping you relieve any added stress to your mind and body!

Deep tissue massage

A deep tissue massage is similar to Swedish massage, but deeper pressure is applied. Deeper pressure is beneficial because it releases chronic muscle tension. Focus is put on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia, which is the protective layer surrounding your muscles, bones and joints.

Deep tissue massages are known to ease pain. If you suffer from plantar fasciitis or fibromyalgia, this massage can help to lessen your discomfort. This massage can also allow you to move around much easier, especially in areas with injury or scar tissue. A deep tissue massage can also improve heart and lung function and it’s a great way to relieve overall stress.

Swedish massage

Swedish massage uses a combination of massage therapy techniques in one session. During your session, Deb will work with your soft tissues and muscles in order to restore balance and health. By the end of your session, all of the muscles in your body will feel relaxed and any pain or tension will be released. If you are feeling overworked or stressed out, this is a great way to ease your body and mind. By relieving muscle tension, many patients find that they have newfound energy. It may even help you if you’ve sustained an injury in the past.

During your session, Deb will lubricate your skin with oil or lotion. Massage strokes are utilized to warm up the muscle tissue and release tension. Muscle knots are also gradually broken up. Swedish massage is intended to promote relaxation and other health benefits.

Myofascial massage

A myofascial massage, or myofascial release therapy, is a hands-on form of physical medicine. It is used to treat muscular pain, headaches, joint dysfunction, tendon inflammation, plantar fasciitis and more. During your session, Deb will use multiple techniques, including long, gliding strokes, assisted and passive stretches, deep trigger point releases and body positioning props.

The fascial layer of the body support, connects and sends signals from the nervous system to the muscular system. Deb will target the fascia layer to affect positive change in your muscles, tendons, joints and organ systems.

Pregnancy

Prenatal massages are a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness during a pregnancy. This massage relieves many of the normal discomforts that expecting mothers experience, including backaches, leg cramps, headaches, a stiff neck and swelling. Additionally, it can reduce stress on weight-bearing joints, encourage blood circulation and help to relax nervous tension. Sleep better and get relief from the depression and anxiety that comes from the hormonal changes associated with pregnancy.

While this massage can be scheduled at all stages of pregnancy, the second trimester and beyond are the most ideal times. We encourage you to speak with your OB if you are worried about safety.

Hot stone massage

A hot stone massage uses heated stones to massage and heat each part of the body. Large stones are placed along the body to warm the tissue. The heat from the stones relaxes the muscles and calms the nervous system, resulting in improved circulation, reduced pain and an improved sense of well being. Hot stone massages are excellent for reducing the effects of arthritis and insomnia.

The localized heat and weight of the stones relax and warm the muscles, allowing Deb to apply deeper pressure to trouble areas without causing discomfort. The stones are smooth and usually a few inches long. Deb will heat the stones to a specific temperature range in a controlled heater. If the stones feel too hot or uncomfortable, please let her know immediately. We don’t want you to feel any discomfort during your appointment.
