What is Botox?

Botox, from Allergan Inc., is one of the most popular non-surgical procedures performed for the temporary correction of certain facial wrinkles. It is a series of small intramuscular injections of an FDA approved purified protein. It works by reducing the activity of the muscles that cause frown lines, such as those between the brows and crow’s feet that cause wrinkles to form over time. The result is a smoother appearance of these areas for several months.*

How does Botox work?

Botox works by blocking the communication between the brain and the injected muscles.* Without this interaction, muscles lay dormant and therefore do not make active expression. After a couple months, the blockage slowly begins to fade so that the muscles regain their activity.

What can I expect during treatment?

Before your treatment, we will analyze your muscle movement and strength. This will help us determine the amount of Botox needed and where it should be injected. If you’d like, you can choose from a variety of pain reducers to minimize discomfort during your appointment. A precise amount of product is carefully placed into each site for maximum, lasting results.* The entire procedure only takes 5-10 minutes.

What can I expect from the results?

You will begin to feel the effects a few days after the treatment, with maximum results appearing after a couple of weeks.* The longevity of Botox depends on three main things: your metabolism, your muscle strength and how active those muscles are.* Some people will metabolize the product very quickly and will therefore need injections more often. Similarly, the stronger your muscles are, the more product you will need. Muscles we use frequently, such as the ones around the mouth and eyes, will need to be injected more often since they are more active. Typically, results last for several months.*

What is Dysport?

Dysport is used to eliminate frown lines between the brows, flatten deep forehead wrinkles, and soften crow’s feet.* The product works by relaxing the muscles of the face, which helps to produce a smooth and relaxed appearance.* The aim of the treatment is not to create a frozen look without expression; the goal is to soften lines with preservation of a natural appearance. The treatment is usually done in 30 minutes.

How does Dysport work?

As a neuromodulator, Dysport blocks the communication between the brain and the muscles that were injected.* With communication blocked, your muscles relax and your fine lines start to diminish.* After a few months, the blockage begins to slowly fade and your muscles will regain their regular activity.

What can I expect during treatment?

After an analysis of your muscle movement and strength, a series of small shots are injected into the muscles. A precise amount of product is carefully placed into each site for maximum, lasting results.* During this 5-10 minute procedure, most patients experience only minimal discomfort but we can use a range of numbing methods if needed.

What can I expect from the results?

Though results often vary, most patients can typically see a noticeable improvement in their lines within a couple of days.* The full effect is seen after a couple of weeks.* The results from the treatment typically last for several months.* For ongoing results, we recommend regular injections before the results of your last treatment wears off completely.
