It’s finally summertime! While that means BBQs, pool days, and beach trips, it also means that your skin is susceptible to damage. From sunburns and sun spots to skin cancer, the sunshine is not something to take lightly. These are our favorite 3 tips to help handle the summer sun and ensure your best Manchester summer ever.
1. Sunscreen is key
You’ve heard it before, but it’s repeated continuously for a reason. Applying and reapplying sunscreen is critical when it comes to sun safety. Aside from it preventing wrinkles, dark spots and sunburns, sunscreen can help prevent skin cancer, too.
There are two primary types of sunscreen, chemical and physical.
Chemical sunscreen absorbs into the skin and absorbs UV rays. If you’re the active type, this is the better choice for you. Not only do chemical sunscreens absorb into the skin quicker, but chemical sunscreens are also water-resistant, making them the ideal choice for swimmers or those who sweat easily.
Physical sunscreen, on the other hand, sits on top of the skin and reflects the sun’s rays. This type of sunscreen is ideal for those with rosacea, or sensitive skin. While physical sunscreens can be harder to blend into the skin, they tend to be more moisturizing.
At Pellé, we offer Elta MD. The EltaMD skincare product line includes deep, gentle cleansers, intense moisturizers, and innovative formulas that repair the visible signs of aging. EltaMD sunscreens help prevent sunburns and decreases the risk of skin cancer and early skin aging caused by the sun when used with other sun protection measures.
2. Stay out of the sun
The sun is the strongest from 10:00 AM through 4:00 PM, so plan to stay inside as much as possible during this period. While that’s not always realistic, it’s important to limit your exposure when possible.
3. Cover up
Staying inside all summer isn’t fun, nor is it realistic. Take the proper precautions to ensure that your skin is protected and then enjoy the great outdoors. Make sure to wear a wide-brimmed hat when possible to cover to your entire face, and to seek out the shade when available. Baseball caps and visors are great choices, but be sure to slather SPF on your ears and neck. Sun-protective clothing is also a must if you’re spending excessive time outdoors. Check the tags to make sure your garments are preventing harmful rays from getting through.
Now that things are heating up, make sure you’re covered no matter where the summer takes you. Pellé has you covered; give us a call at (603) 627-7000 to book your appointment today and prepare yourself for the oncoming heat.
