What are smoker’s lines?

Smoker’s lines, or lipstick lines, are the vertical creases and lines that form on and above the lips. Despite their name, you don’t have to be a smoker to get them. These unsightly lines are caused by a variety of factors, like genetics, age, repetitive lip movements and yes, smoking cigarettes.

Age and repetitive, regular lip movement are obviously impossible to avoid, making these lines inevitable. For those who wear lipstick, these lines are noticeable when lipstick “bleeds” into the wrinkles. But just because these lines are inevitable, it doesn’t mean they aren’t treatable. Injectables that use neuromodulators can relax the muscles above your lips and cause your skin to look much smoother and healthier.*

What are the available treatments?

At Pellé Medical Spa in Manchester, New Hampshire, we use Botox and Dysport to treat smoker’s lines. Botox and Dysport are injectables that limit muscle movement. With reduced muscle activity in a treated area, your current wrinkles will fade and any new lines will be temporarily on hold.* Repeated treatments will be necessary to keep up with the wrinkles that come back or form. But results are known to last for several months!*
